UPTODATE NEWS......
Welcome to our diary at MOUNT CASHEL KENNELS. Here we will try and give you an uptodate account of what is happening at our kennels. Be it racing, breeding, stud dogs or results from pups from our stud dogs. We hope you enjoy the visit.

MARTIN TUCKER.

It`s hard to believe that it`s a month since we last updated our news page, but we have been so busy. We have been taking in a few dogs for schooling for people and what with a few of our own race dogs, pups and saplings, plus the ongoing development down on our field which is now at an advanced stage, we just don`t seem to have the time to go on the computer.
NANDROLONE has had a couple of sprint trials around Galway in preperation for the Open Sprint which starts tomorrow night and has posted some very fast times, so fingers crossed !
KLEAN PREP was very badly baulked in his semi-final down in Galway when virtually in front and failed to qualify. To make matters worse he came off very sore and only resumed galloping yesterday. I think a couple of sprints in Longford will get him back on track.
VISCOLEX has been a source of frustration this year, showing nothing like the form he showed at the end of last year, but he did get back to winning ways when landing a sprint in Longford last week and I think we will give him a few more runs over the shorter trip. His litter brother SOLPADOL qualified back to race last week. However, the number off weeks off have taken it`s toil as he is a couple of pounds overweight. We are going to sprint him in trials with view to a race in Dundalk in a months time.
PHARMACIST as we thought was very well suited to the tricky Mullingar circuit and was unlucky to be beaten a short head on her debut there. However, she made amends a week later when winning on a benefit night which meant extra prize money, a trophy and a picture taken on the track ! She then promptly came in season and is booked into DROOPYS KEWELL as none of our own dogs are suitable for her.

As already mentioned our `Puppy Reaing Venture` is at an advanced stage. The fencing is very nearly complete and the concrete is being laid. The gates are ready for galvinizing and the huts are also nearing completition. The response we have had has been highly encoraging with 30 pups waiting as I type to come here. A couple more weeks should see the first stage finished, before we start building the large shed which will house the kitchen, store and a dozen kennels.

SEE YOU ALL AGAIN SOON.

26th June `04
Our bad run in competition finals continued when NANDROLONE (Crack Off-Little Waddle) was badly baulked in the final of the Open Sprint and finished 5th. To make matters worse he came off very sore and will be out for about a month which will put him out of the big €35,000 Sprint competition in Dundalk in mid July. The Open Sprint race week in Galway, will hopefully be his next objective. KLEN PREP (Some Gamble-Overanette) won his first round heat of a €2,500 Stake in Galway last week and finished runner-up last night to safely make it through to next weeks semi-finals. Being the only wide seed left, he is sure of trap 6 and if making a good start he should qualify for the final. PHARMACIST (Top Honcho-Quare Reward) returning to action after her litter to LARKHILL JO, got back to winning ways in Galway last week with a nice trap to line performance. It was a real genuine performance, as she needed the race and looked beaten turning for home, but she gamely held on to win by two short heads in 29.66. She more than likely will come in season again soon, so we will just restrict her to the odd race. I think a 400 in Mullingar would suit her, so that will be her next target.
We have moved on a number of dogs in recent weeks SPEED TRAP and TOIL have gone to England, whilst SCIMITER and SYMPHONY have gone back to their owners, but as ever, there are three new dogs in for schooling. VISCOLEX (Some Gamble-Overanette) is also on the easy list and his brother SOLPADOL is ready to start back galloping shortly.
Our Puppy Rearing Project is well underway, with the Fencing Contractor currently putting up the posts which should be finished this week and then he starts hanging the chain link. Hopefully we will be able to start taking in pups at the start of August.

10th June `04
The Summer is really flying by and it`s hard to believe we are nearly into the middle of June already ! NANDROLONE has been flying in recent weeks and has reached the final of the €2,500 Open Sprint in Longford unbeaten, winning his heat, Quarter Final and Semi Final in impressive manner. He has drawn trap 5 in the final next Monday and has a great chance providing he does everything right. It is a top class race with very useful dogs in the line up. He has a slight tendon injury behind the wrist that we are treating, but hopefully he will be okay and runs a `big` race on the night. This is his third final, so lets hope it`s third time lucky.
Our grand old servent BARRYDALE BILL`s (Split the Bill-Springwell Spice) career came to an end at the Quarter final stage of the same competition, when in a very tough heat, he broke his hock when in second place coming off the first bend. He was contesting his 50th race and it was a sorry way for him to finish his racing days, but as the break wasn`t too bad, we have got it in plaster and he will stay here until perhaps we can hopefully find him a good home to see out the rest of his days.

15th May `04
No luck with NANDROLONE in the final of the €5,000 Paddy Glennon Memorial 525 in Longford. He broke well from 4 but edged out and brushed against the 5 dog and his chance was gone. The 2 dog flew out and raced away to an impressive win in a spectacular 28.35. I was delighted just to reach the final for his connections and I thought he ran his heart out every night over a distance that was obviously too far for him, as it was taking too much out of him every night. He will now stay at races over the sprint trip. We have turned him out into the paddocks since, chewing bones and just letting him have a change of routine. He got his first gallop since the final this morning and he will get a sprint trial on Wednesday in preperation for a €2,500 Open Sprint Competition that is starting on the 24th May. He will be joined in it by BARRYDALE BILL who returned to racing last Friday in Longford and suprised us by taking the top sprint of the night. Unconsidered in the betting at 5/1 he hopped out and won by a length in 18.03 on a track that was running slow due to new sand being laid. The same night KLEAN PREP landed a heat of a 29.30 Stake with a smart trap to line performance. However, last night in the semi-finals after missing his break he was very badly baulked at the opening corner and brought to his knees and finished 5th. SYMPHONY had also run in the stake and had run well to finish second in her heat which was the fastest of the round. She also had no luck in her semi-final as she was in joint 2nd place turning for home when something happened to her and all of a sudden she was tailed off. This morning she has a nice spike mark on her back leg. SOLPADOL also contested the stake and running from an unfavorable trap draw was trying to get outside all the time and seemed to stumble up the backstraight and finished well beaten. When he came off he had a bad cut to his pad and a split web. It looks nasty and he will be off a couple of months at least whilst it heals.

27th APRIL `04
Firstly, apologies for sadly neglecting to update this site over the last month. Having been busy racing and trialling, a young family to contain with and my Mother being sick we have just not got around or been in the humour at the end of the day to sit down and start typing. I`m sure you have all been in that boat at some time !
NANDROLONE recorded an exceptional 17.72 Qualifying trial back which is ony 10 spots off the track record in Longford in preparation for the €5,000 Paddy Glennon Memorial 525 at Longford. We were also able to get a couple of `schools` into him before hand, but he wasn`t getting the trip. However, we decided to let him take his chance in it and recording an exceptional 3.40 split in the first round, he was a long way clear at the half way mark and won by 4 lenghts in 29.21. In the second round he once again opened up a big lead up the back, but faded in the homestraight to be beaten a head in 29.04. Last night he flashed out in his semi final to go 3 lengths clear up the far side, but once again got picked up in the homestraight to be beaten three and a half lengths in 28.91. He received a unfavourable trap 4 draw in the final, but with his great early pace he should not be too inconveinenced. The dog in trap 2 also has great early, so there should be some buckle between them in the early stage. It`s great to be in a `big` final and all we can hope for is that he leads, with trouble in behind him at the third bend and then start praying!
ZAX DARN YANK badly missed his break on his next outing in Mullingar. Moving up quickly to the first bend he was badly crowded and baulked and finished 4th, but he came off very sore and has gone back to his owner for a few weeks rest. He was only to stay here a short while anyway, so I expect him to stay with his owner when he returns racing shortly.
SYMPHONY followed up from her promising debut to win next time out with a nice trap to line performance when winning in 29.36 at Longford. She took a major hike up in grade on last Friday and was in a handy position before clipping the heels of the dog in front and finishing last, but she will have learnt from the experience.
KLEAN PREP had won his two previous starts at Mullingar and we entered him in Dundalk. Unbelieveably it took FOUR weeks to get him on and he ran like a dog that needed a race. He is currently being got ready for a 29.30 stake which is starting in Longford next week. He will be joined in it by his brother SOLPODOL, he went out at the semi final stage of a 29.50 stake last night having been beaten a length in the heats in 29.32. Badly drawn in 4 he got no run and was badly crowded on a few occasions and it was disappointing to go out in such a modest time of 29.70.
BARRYDALE EMMA and PHARMACIST have just trialled back and will be entered in a couple of weeks after a few `schools`.
Congratulations to the connections of NANDROLONES litter brother CRACK ON JACK (Crack Off-Little Waddle) who won a €1,700 Unraced stake in Longford recently. Showing super early pace he won a competitive final in a very smart 28.83 and was promptly sold for a nice four figure sum and will continue his career in the UK where i`m sure he will do very well.

25th MARCH `04
All the dogs seem to coming into form at present. ZAX DARN YANK (Kiowa Shawnee So-Ballybrazil Lady) owned by Lesley Finch, made a winning debut for us last week over 525 yards in Mullingar. Showing excellent early pace he was always in command and ran out a comfortable winner. He runs again this weekend over the shorter 400 yard trip with a 525 stake in Kilkenny in a fortnights time on the cards, all going well.
KLEAN PREP (Some Gamble-Overanette) made it two on the trot when winning again over the 400 yard trip at a large Benefit night in Mullingar. Taking a good hike up in class he really had to battle hard for his win. It was a nice moment for the `Spot on Syndicate`, as they received a trophy and had their picture taken on the track.
SYMPHONY (Larkhill Jo-Lodgefield Dolly), also made her debut for the `Somemightsay Syndicate`. We have had terrible problems getting her to face the correct way when the traps open, but at last she seems to have settled down and she ran a cracking race to be just beaten a short head in Longford. She came through the field to lead into the homestraight only to be `done` on the line in a promising 29.59. We thought BARRYDALE BILL (Split the Bill-Springwell Spice) had come out of his rough race in Mullinger unscathed, but he has a badly swollen tendon below the wrist and will be a number of weeks off, which is a great pity as he was running very well and it`s always a struggle to bring a dog back, that is going to return straight back into top grade, especially over the sprint trip.
NANDRALONE (Crack Off-Little Waddle) had his first gallop yesterday and he came off sound. He is going to need a lot of work to get him ready for a stake that is due to start in Longford on the 12th April. He will probably need the race that night, but if we get over that, he will be spot on for the second round and hopefully will be getting better during the stake, but as we all know things are never quite that simple !

14th MARCH `04
We have experienced all the ups and downs associated with Greyhounds over the past fortnight. Firstly we brought NANDROLONE down to Galway for a sprint trial. He was `flying` when coming up the homestraight when something badly distracted him and he stopped dead in his tracks and ran back to see what it was ! He was like something possessed running up and down the homestraight behind the traps. Eventually we caught him. Obviously stopping so suddenly he could have got injured and a trip to Tony Collins confirmed this. He was all jarred up and a bit sore on a metacarpel, but Tony says he will be okay to gallop him in a fortnight after treating his metacarpel with Ultrasound and bone radial. There is an attractive stake starting on the 12th April in Longford and that is what we aim to get him ready for.
A couple of days later BARRYDALE BILL landed the Open Sprint at a big Benefit night in Longford and showed a lot of his old sparkle when winning by 4 lengths.
SOLPADOL failed to make it through to the final of the €2,000 Unraced stake he was contesting. In truth, he wasn`t simply good enough, but still ran and tried his best and there will be plenty of wins from him in the future. His litter brother KLEAN PREP owned by the `Spot on Syndicate`, had been unlucky on his seasonal debut in Longford, but he landed the spoils with a nice performance this week when winning a 400 yard race in Mullingar. Despite taking a hefty bump leaving traps, he showed good pace to take it up in the homestraight and win going away by a length, much to the delight of his owners who helped themselves to the 2/1 on offer.
SPEED TRAP and VISCOLEX were both out on Friday night. SPEED TRAP led until near the line and was beaten a length and a neck, but I blame myself as he badly needed the run. I had been undecided whether to trial him or not, as he seemed to be saving his best trapping for trials, so I decided to see how he would trap when fresh. He blasted out and went well clear, but tied up close home to be beaten. He will certainly come on for the run. VISCOLEX totally forgot to break, but showed some of his backstraight pace that was lacking recently, to challenge into the third bend but got no run and finished last. However he showed enough to suggest that he and the rest of the kennel are returning to form.
BARRYDALE BILL was out last night in an Open 400 at Mullingar. Breaking smartly he had cleared 4 of his rivals going into the first bend and was nearly clear of the other one when it ran straight off the bend and took us right out of the race as we were coming across from the outside. Another stride and we were clear and the race was in the bag ! Thankfully he came off sound and lives to fight another day.

1st MARCH `04
Fridays night racing in Longford was cancelled due to frost and the card was due to be run tonight, but once again it fell foul of the weather. With a benefit night already booked for the coming Friday at Longford, we will have to wait until this night week for SOLPADOL`s semi-final. Our gallop is out of commission as well with the frost, so hopefully we might get a trial into him on Wednesday morning if the weather improves. The only thing is that it is much the same for everyone else as well.

22nd FEBRUARY `04
SOLPADOL made it safely through to the semi-finals of the €2,000 Unraced Stake in Longford on Friday night. Once again he showed good early pace and led up the farside, but again he was starting to struggle on the run in and was beaten a neck by the 4/6 favourite. He might, with a bit of luck make it through to the final, which would be great as he really only 70% ready.
KLEAN PREP is also struggling to get the 525 and VISCOLEX is not doing the sort of times he was doing last year. SCIMITAR is really struggling over 4 bends and a trip to the vets this week is on the cards to get their bloods done. Alot of the dogs are running `flat`, so perhaps they are not over the sickness we had, even though they all seem in good form.
Our trip to Shelbourne Park with NANDROLONE was a bit of a disaster, as he stumbled badly leaving traps. It is such a wide track and he keeps such a wide course, even on the bends, that we have changed our mind about running him there and we will perhaps go down to Galway with him shortly. Our loyal servant BARRYDALE BILL (Split the Bill-Springwell Spice), a September `00 whelp, who has been here since he was twelve weeks old, registered his 14 win of his career last night for us, when he got up in the last stride to win by a short head in a sprint down in Galway. This is a fair achievment as he has always raced at the highest level over the sprint trip, since very early in his career. Not being able to stay 525 yards, has always been a disadvantage as he is therefore always in the top sprint of the night when ever he races and he rarely runs what you would call a bad race. Due to a very severe `track leg` he has never been `moved on` and still loves to go racing and is a real character around the place.

14th FEBRUARY `04
Our racing season has really kicked off over the last week with most of the dogs having their first outings of the New Year. Now cleared of the cough they were all in need of the run but will have come on greatly for it.
TOIL (Some Gamble-Quare Shadow) had her first race last week and showed a little bit of promise when tracking the leader up the backstraight before dropping back to be a well beaten third which was hardly suprising when the time was read out, 28.92 !!
Her litter brother SPEED TRAP was involved in a very messy race and couldn`t get going in the early stages, before he burst clear up the farside, but as expected fell away turning for home to finish down the field, but I was happy with him and a big run is anticipated soon.
VISCOLEX (Some Gamble-Ovranette) was in a hot contest and was a close up third going up the backstraight before cramping up badly turning for home, which was suprising as he has never done this before.
His brother KLEAN PREP was having his first race since September where he was injured and we gave him a `squeak` in a sprint, but he left his race behind in the traps before flying through the field to claim second place and was clear at the pick up.
Another brother SOLPADOL made his debut in an €2,000 Unraced Stake and was only put in because they were short of entries. He ran well to lead until the last couple of strides and was beaten three parts of a length.
SCIMITAR (Larkhill Jo-Lodgefield Dolly) was also put into the stake but we were using it as a `school` to qualify him for a stake in a fortnights time and he ran well in the early stages before tiring in the homestraight.
CARRICK CACKLER (Crack Off-Little Waddle) has now been renamed NANDROLONE and he had done a couple of very smart sprint trials in the last ten days and he was well fancied to land this modest looking contest which he did with ease. Moderatly away, he picked up very quickly to lead easily into the first bend and won by 5 lenghts in an excellent 17.83, just 3 lengths off the clock and a sprint trial in Shelbourne Park next week is on the cards in preperation for the Open Sprint Competition starting the following week.

28th JANUARY `04
All the dogs thankfully seem to be over the cough. Weather permitting, we will give them a gallop at the weekend. It has been really frosty this week and our gallop has been a bit too `crusty` to chance those dogs that were able to be galloped, so they were confined to the walking machine. Hopefully next week we can start getting some work into the dogs as their `time` will be shortly up and they will be well short of work when they come to race. It would be nice if we could sneak a race, as they would surely come on for the run and would have a bit in hand for the next time.

21st JANUARY `04
We managed to get a gallop into some of the dogs that arn`t coughing on Monday and we trialled the three brothers at Longford today. They were all in need of the run, but they all ran well and appeared to have come off sound. SPEED TRAP is the latest to go down with the cough. That means six of the ten dogs in the racing Kennels are now down with it.

17th JANUARY `04
Heavy frost last night and again tonight has ruled out galloping and trialling those fit for running over the weekend. Litter brothers VISCOLEX, KLEAN PREP and SOLPADOL (Some Gamble-Ovranette) have so far escaped the cough and are waiting to get back racing. They all qualified back last week, so it`s disappointing to miss some work at this stage.

14th JANUARY `04

Half of our ten racing dogs have gone down with the cough, which is disappointing as we had just started them back after the Christmas. We had qualified some back and were about to qualify some of the unraced ones. You wonder why some are showing visable signs of the cough, whilst others show no signs at all. BARRYDALE BILL did a flying sprint trial in Longford this week, but we can`t get a race there for him, so he has been entered in Galway for next week.

10th JANUARY `04

PHARMACIST (Top Honcho-Quare Reward) has produced a nice litter of 4 dogs and 2 bitches to leading sire LARKHILL JO. All the pups are black and mother and pups are doing well.

8th JANUARY `04

We see in this weeks IRISH GREYHOUND WEEKLY that SAVANA SNOWSTORM (Some Gamble-Kevitt Blaze) who we bred here and who is a litter sister to BITOFOVERTIME, who we have pups by at present (see FOR SALE page) landed the final of an €1,800 Stake over 525 yards in Waterford last week. Congratulations to all concerned.

31st DECEMBER `03

Well, another year over and with the recent frost and Christmas period things have ground to a bit of a halt with meetings and trial sessions being cancelled. Next year promises alot for us here, when we hope to open, in early June our new rearing facility which we have spent the last eighteen months developing on our 11 acre site. Happy New Year to everyone.

24th DECEMBER `03

Here`s wishing eveyone who visits this site, a very Merry Christmas.

23rd DECEMBER `03

Our recent bad luck in finals continued with SPEED TRAP in the €1,500 Final of the 29.60 Stake in Longford. We knew that not being the best of stayers, he would have to lead early, to have any chance of winning. Despite making one of his better breaks he was led into the corner by two rivals and they being railers there wasn`t much room around the first bend. His pace up the far side brought him right into the race, but he was badly checked when challenging into the third bend and back peddled from there on in and finished last. We will give him a couple of sprint trials and enter him in a race to see how he fairs over a shorter trip, it should also help sharpen up his trapping which has proved to be his downfall.

18th DECEMBER `03

PHARMACIST (Top Honcho-Quare Reward) is now five weeks mated to LARKHILL JO and looks well in pup at this stage.

16th DECEMBER `03

SPEED TRAP, owned by the Swinford Five Syndicate, made it through to the final of the €1,500 29.60 stake in Longford , but did he make us sweat ! After a much improved performance in the second round, he reverted back to his old ways and fell from traps. However, he railed tightly and came out of the second bend in third place, before `flying` up the far side and hit the front going into the third bend. However, he had done his running to get to the front and had nothing left in the tank and was passed by two dogs in the homestraight and just held on for third spot by a short head !!! He`s got a good trap 2 draw for the final and if he comes out like he did in the second round, he will take all the beating. He doesn`t look the best of stayers and it`s hard to imagine him winning if he has to come from behind. His litter sister TOIL, back from her season, has had her qualifying trial and needs another before we can start getting her ready for her debut. We brought CARRICK CACKLER, KLEAN PREP and VISCOLEX down to Tony Collins for a check up over the weekend and they are all ready to go back into hard work after Christmas. Add SOLPADOL and the unraced sister and brother SYMPHONY and SCIMITER (Larkhill Jo-Lodgefield Dolly) and you can see we will have plenty of runners in the New Year.

14th DECEMBER `03

CRACK OFF produced another stake winner, when NEWPORT RED (Crack Off-Hi Diddle Diddle) won the final of the 29.60 stake in Lifford on Saturday night.

10th DECEMBER `03

Mondays meeting was delayed 24 hours due to frost. SPEED TRAP really got his trapping boots on as he blasted from traps in his second round heat and ran out a very easy winner by 5 lengths in a best of the round 29.20. It was a promising run and he has been rewarded with a good trap 2 draw in the easiest of the two semi-finals and providing he doesn`t make a mess of his break, he should qualify for the €1,500 decider.

5th DECEMBER `03

Congratulations to the connections of CRACKLYN LUCY (Crack Off-Silver Jet) who landed a €1,500 final at Galways Gala Opening night.

1st DECEMBER `03

Tonights meeting in Longford was called off due to frost and the card has been rearranged for next Monday night. BARRYDALE EMMA`s season seems to have been a false one and we will put her back in training in a few weeks.

29th NOVEMBER `03

SPEED TRAP has a tricky second round heat in the 29.60 Stake in Longford on Monday night, with three other heat winners in the line up. Also to make matters more difficult, the two fastest heat winners are included and he will do well to qualify from his trap 3 draw. CARRICK CACKLER did a `flying` sprint trial on Wednesday in Longford, but cut his wrist when driving in at the pick up and we will now leave him off until the New Year. KLEAN PREP (Some Gamble-Ovranette) and his litter brother SOLPADAL had their first gallops after injury over the weekend. Just a gentle gallop at their own pace and they seem to have come off sound.

25th NOVEMBER `03

SPEED TRAP (Some Gamble-Quare Shadow) had run well in the recent unraced stake in Longford. We only entered him in the hope that he would get a couple of quick runs which I think is better than two and three dog trials. So we were delighted when he won his heat, but he was too inexperienced in the second round and semi-finals. We gave him a couple of confidence building schools afterwards and he clocked a well improved 29.24 in one of them. Last night he ran in the heats of a €1,500 29.60 Stake in Longford. Despite an unsuitable trap 6 draw and making straight for the rails at trap rise, he came from last to first and won by a couple of lengths in 29.69 and with a better draw should step up on that in the second round next week.

13th NOVEMBER `03

Just as she was returning to form, BARRYDALE EMMA (Split the Bill-Springwell Spice) has come in season again and she will be mated with our own MICKS MYSTIC.

11th NOVEMBER `03

As we anticipated CARRICK CACKLER made straight for the outside from his trap 2 draw in the final of the €1,000 Unraced Stake in Longford and not only ruined his own chances, but also those on his outside. It handed it to the 1 dog RUMOUR MACHINE who had a complete solo and won handily in a smart 28.86. His litter brother and favourite TAMNA ROLO got no run at all and finished fourth. They are litter brothers to our own young bitch PHARMACIST (Top Honcho-Quare Reward) who was mated last week to LARKHILL JO. CARRICK CACKLER eventually finished third in the final and we will now give him a couple of weeks off. The owners want a night out with him in Galway before Christmas, so we will start getting him ready for a race down there shortly.

9th NOVEMBER `03

It was a good 24 hours for a former inmate of ours BLUE MURLEN, who was retired from stud duties earlier in the year due to testicular cancer. His son LARKINS LOT ex Hi Girl, won the final of the €1,000 confined 29.20 stake in Harolds Cross, whilst 24 hours later, CONGO COSMOS ex Wintetavern Pace, landed the final of a €1,500 Stake over 750 yards at Shelbourne Park.

7th NOVEMBER `03

A few of our dogs have gone down with kennel sickness that has been doing the rounds. BARRYDALE BILL is the worst effected, but he`s okay. We just hope that CARRICK CACKLER doesn`t come down with anything before Monday nights final.

4th NOVEMBER `03.

As we feared VISCOLEX fell at the final hurdle when finishing third in the final. The combination of a bad draw and his injuries caught up with him. Taking a bump at trap rise didn`t help, but his early pace got him into a great position around the opening bend. However, he didn`t run the opening bends well and failed to show the burst of pace that he had shown in the earlier rounds up the backstraight. It all got a bit `messy` at the third bend with four dogs arriving there together. Eventually he ran on to be beaten a head and a length in 29.45. A disappointing end to the stake that promised so much after the first round. We will give him a good rest know until after Christmas. We still have his two brothers, KLEAN PREP and SOLPADOL also to look forward to.
SPEED TRAP bowed out of the unraced stake, as expected, in a heat that was won in a brilliant 28.71 by PHARMACISTS litter brother TAMNA ROLO. CARRICK CACKLER qualified for the final when he was caught close home and beaten a length in 29.06. However, he received a terrible trap 2 draw in the final and will not make it easy for himself, or his rivals as he will make straight for the outside. As long as he comes off sound we will be able to seed him `wide` after this.

1st NOVEMBER `03

As we thought PHARMACIST (Top Honcho-Quare Reward) got no run from her trap 4 draw in the semi finals of the €2,200 Stake in Galway and was run out of a qualifying place close home. As we bought her for breeding (her mother is a litter sister to DROOPYS JUNINHO and Derby finalist TAMNA ROSE) and it is her second time to break in 5 months we have decided to breed her and LARKHILL JO has been booked. This will give us a similar cross to the one that produced TEDS JO. With two wins from three starts its a shame to breed from her just yet, as she was only starting to come to hand, but she has shown us enough to make this decision.

30th OCTOBER `03

PHARMACIST has come in season, but we will chance running her in the semi-finals despite an awful trap 4 draw.

28th OCTOBER `03.

VISCOLEX safely made it through to next weeks €1,200 decider with a hard fought three quarter length victory in 29.27 in Longford last night. A trap 4 draw in the final isn`t ideal, but with two slow starters in 1 & 2 hopefully he will get on the rails around the opening bends. SPEED TRAP made it safely through to the semi-finals of the unraced stake. Still running very green he is gaining valuable experience for these runs. CARRICK CACKLER has settled in well and despite being beaten after being well in front we took it very easy with him last week and a bit of work this week should see him staying on better next Monday. BARRYDALE EMMA (Split the Bill-Springwell Spice) has been running indifferantly since she returned from being in season, but she returned to her best last night when blasting out and winning by 4 lengths in 18.00.

24th OCTOBER `03.

We decided to take a chance and run PHARMACIST in a €2,200 29.70 Stake in Galway tonight and she ran well first time around to win in 29.89. We will pull her out of the unraced stake in Longford that she is currently in. Also, we see that ELBONY ETNA (Crack Off-Bettys Wonder) made it three wins on the trot when winning the final of a sprint competition in Tralee.

22nd OCTOBER `03.

After a trip to Tony Collins, VISCOLEX, as feared has a couple of injuries that we are working on. It will be touch and go if he runs Monday night in the semi-finals.

20th OCTOBER `03.

A great night for MOUNT CASHEL KENNELS as we recorded our first ever `treble`. For a small racing kennel this was very pleasing especially as we bred two of them here. VISCOLEX (Some Gamble-Overanette) owned by Willie MacAuliffe started it off. Following on from his impressive heat win last week (29.16) in the €1,200 29.70 Stake, he won again despite taking a hefty smack at the first bend and he held on to win by half a length in 29.47 A trip to the physio is on the cards to check him out before the semi-finals. SPEED TRAP (Some Gamble-Quare Shadow) owned by the Swinford Five Syndicate, landed the opening heat of a €1,000 Unraced Stake. Breaking slowly and running very green, he took it up to lead into the back straight and went on to win by 3 lengths in 29.89. PHARMACIST (Top Honcho-Quare Reward) jointly owned by my wife Sarah and good friend Michelle MacAuliffe, completed the treble when taking heat 2. Making straight for the rails from trap 6, she burst through at the second bend and won by 5 lengths in 29.98 and she will step up on that time considerably. To round off a great night CARRICK CACKLER (Crack Off-Little Waddle) an August`02 youngster, who we bought for a new syndicate The Bow Wows West Racing Club, a few days before, won heat 6 with a superb trap to line 7 length victory in a fast 29.08. The `generous` odds of 4/1 helped recoup some of the purchase price and he joined our kennels after racing.
